Creative writing-story through a tapestry. Genially

Level: Intermediate upward

Time: 60 minutes

Materials: Colour pencils, lots of squares paper, art reproduction postcard about Bayeaux Tapestry and Illuminates Medieval manuscripts, art books.

Language focus: Past tense in narrative.

Aims: To give practice in the use of the past tense when writing narratives. To give students the opportunity to engage with creative writing. To give students the opportunity to engage in collaborative writing and painting if they appreciate the support this offers.

Preparation: Prepare a genially presentation to introduce the Legend of king Arthur, the differences between legends and history; what tapestries were used for in the Middle Ages and to add students’ production (their own tapestry about King Arthur).

In class:

1-Ask the students to work in pairs of small groups to create a narrative of the scenes in a tapestry. Draw their attention to the importance of using past forms and time markers in the construction of their story.

2-They watch the Genially presentation in class.

3-They submit their stories about King Arthur, after feedback and correction, publish them in the teacher's Genially presentation.
